A Cipher is a gear item used during Hacking to automatically line up sections or insert the dials of the hack to instantly solve the puzzle. One blueprint will produce 1, 10, or 100 cipher(s), depending on the blueprint.
Acquisition
Its 1x and 10x blueprints can be bought from the Market at the Gear tab for 
500 and 250,000, respectively. Neither blueprint will be consumed on use.

Notes
- Ciphers, among other consumables, changed from credit buyable to blueprint only in Update 10.0 (2013-09-13).
- A maximum of 200 Ciphers may be taken into any single mission.
- This item can help when attempting the Mastery Rank 5 Test (advancing from Rank 4 to 5), in which you have to hack terminals against a time limit. Terminals will have up to 9 panels (more than the normal ones you encounter in game). 10 Ciphers are enough to pass the test with ease.
- While hacking, the Cipher can be quickly used by pressing Y . Currently, this will function regardless of which slot the ciphers are equipped into, and even if the player no longer has default key bindings for using items.
- Ciphers cannot be used during Sorties, Arbitrations, and Nightmare missions.
- If the player is quick enough they can use the cipher before the puzzle appears.

- A Cipher is an algorithm for decryption or encryption.
- Using a Cipher is the only way to not trigger the intrusion detection on complex Corpus consoles.
Patch History
Hotfix 36.1.5 (2024-09-03)
- Added input callout next to the “Use Cipher” button while hacking.
- Especially useful for our controller players, who may have not been aware that there is a binding to auto-complete hacks and would instead drag the virtual cursor to the button.
Hotfix 33.6.2 (2023-08-01)
- Fixed mashing the Cipher button resulting in a total loss of input, meaning players would not be able to leave the hacking screen.
Update 27.2 (2020-03-05)
- 100x Restore Blueprints (Scaling Costs):
We are adding a new series of Restore Research and Blueprints that yield 100 of given Restore. Visit the Clan Dojo to research, and prepare your Railjack Resources accordingly!
Upon research, you will be able to build in batches of x100 with costs scaled from the x10 Blueprints!!
Why: The frequency at which players use these in missions vs. the 1 minute wait times for building 10x meant we could level up the batches here. Railjack Resources are being used for Research to give another use for what you are picking up!
